You may have caught a glimpse of her at this year’s BET Awards – but that’s just the beginning for songstress Kimberly Nichole. The Seattle native is blazing through the beginner blues – making a name for herself with her rich vocal ability and stage presence!
The story begins a few short years ago when Kimberly decided she was going to “just do it,” so she packed up her jeep and drove to NYC to follow her musical dreams. This gutsy talent talks with NewNaturalista about her passions, her natural hair and her oh so bright future!

NewNaturalista: Your voice is so rich. Please tell us how you would describe your sound?
Kimberly Nichole: Thank you, my style is a mixture of the music I grew up listening to and much more. My parents played a lot of gospel and soul when I was younger and I also listened to the grunge/rock music that dominated Seattle when I was a child.
NewNaturalista: Who/what are some of your musical influences?
Kimberly Nichole: Cee-Lo, Tina Turner, The Doors…there are so many. I just love good music..great artists who are innovative.

NewNaturalista: Many people got a taste of your talent while watching the BET Awards – describe the experience. What has been the response so far?
Kimberly Nichole: It was a wonderful experience, there was so much going on – so busy during that weekend that it’s almost a blur. But, I remember feeling nervous, scared, grateful…every emotion you can imagine. I’m proud of the opportunity to presented on such a big stage at this stage of my career.
NewNaturalista: How (has your hometown) Seattle influenced your craft?
Kimberly Nichole: It’s influenced so much in me. The music of Seattle has really inspired me, the many entrepreneurs that have come out of Seattle inspire me as well. I’m just proud to be a Seattle born and raised artist.. You don’t hear that too often!
NN: Tell us a little about your hair journey? Have you always worn your hair natural?
KN: I went natural in 2004. I started with a small afro ..then wore the coil/pop out look for a long time. There’s really not a story behind my look. I just like to keep it short on the sides and back and puffy at the top. It’s easy and fun.

NN: What have you learned about yourself since taking on the journey to become a professional recording artist?
KN: I’ve learned that I’m a strong minded individual that goes for my desires in life. I’ve always been that way…but as I grow older and even more mature – it’s just reconfirmed during every decision and step I make related to my future.
NN: What’s on the horizon for you?
KN: Continuing to push my music to new audiences… to continue to evolve and grow as an artist.. a person and impact the world through my art.
