I’ve noticed recently all of my favorite hair products contain in some form these three ingredients: Rosemary, marshmallow and nettle.
Sounds yummy right? Great for a sweet and savory recipe, but why do they work so well on our hair?
1. ROSEMARY is a woody, perennial herb with fragrant, evergreen, needle-like leaves. It is native to the Mediterranean region.
How It Works For Hair: Rosemary has a stimulating action on hair follicles. Hair growth begins in the follicles, adding rosemary to hair products is said to stimulate the growth and regrowth of hair.
2. MARSHMALLOW is a medicated, conditioning, mucilaginous herb.
How It Works For Hair: Marshmallow provides an abundance of ’slip’ which helps to nourish and detangle naturally curly hair. It contains vitamins A and C plus natural plant proteins, mucilage (polysaccharides), starch, pectin, phenolic acids, sucrose, asparagine, oil, flavonoids, cellulose, sugar, glutinous matter and phosphate of lime.
3. NETTLE has been used for centuries to treat everything from asthma to arthritis. It’s also known to help with mental clarity.
How It Works For Hair: The most famous use is to help treat hair loss! Apparently it improves scalp circulation, stimulating hair roots. This helps to promote hair growth.
Here’s a look at some of my favorite products that carry these ingredients:
How I Use: I prep my scalp with this about a half and hour before washing. Ingredients: Rosemary, French Lavender, Tea Tree, Bay, Sage, Herbal Extracts of Nettle leaf, Burdock root, Red Clover blossom, Chaparal leaf.
How I Use: I’m so in love with this conditioner. It’s not as thick and rich as it was when it first hit the market but it performs the same. It smells great, has wonderful slip and conditions my hair marvelously! Ingredients: Purified water, Olive Fruit Oil, Sage Extract, Rosemary, Basil, Mullein, Licorice, Thyme Extracts…
How I Use: This leave in has tremendous slip – which means it glides on smoothly! I use it as a leave in conditioner every I wash! Ingredients: Organic mango fruit extract, organic slippery elm, organic marshmallow root, organic lemon grass…
What are some of your favorites?
