I recently had the pleasure of chatting with True Blood star Tanya Wright – she’s here in Seattle for the debut of her new film Butterfly Rising.

Tanya Wright Butterfly Rising

Tanya has such a warm, authentic and adventurous spirit. (I just found out that we were both born ON MAY 3rd!) She’s never been to Seattle before, so she decided to hit the streets and experience first hand all of the tourist traps. This Sunday her film will debut at the African American Festival, for all of those in the pacific northwest it’s a must see!

Wright, who is known to fans worldwide through her recurring role as the saucy, outspoken Deputy Kenya Jones also stars in the film as Rose Johnson.

Hope to see you there!

Date & Time:

Sunday, May 8 | 6pm |

About the film:

“In today’s world, it’s easy to put our dreams last on our daily list of ‘things to do.’ ‘Butterfly Rising’ — a bumpy and emotional journey towards hope and rebirth —  is a story that suggests our dreams may actually be the bridge to leading a productive, fulfilling and extraordinary life. The journey of Lilah and Rose also exemplifies that second chances are infinitely real and deserved.” Bobbi Booker, Philadelphia Tribune

The film is about  two broken souls  who steal a vintage truck and head out on the open road to a fated encounter with the mythical, magical ‘Lazarus of the Butterflies.’  When her brother dies, singer Lilah Belle sets out to escape her grief and embarks on a road trip, but not before coaxing the new-to-town, most scandalous woman in Artesia—Rose Johnson—to go with her. What occurs with the strange Butterfly Man transforms their destinies and binds the women together—forever.
