Like her favorite fruit, artist Brianna Mccarthy is vibrant – her illustrations awaken the senses, lively, sweet and colorful. Her motto: More fruit, more passion, more life.
Brianna Mccarthy’s passion for art began with a discovery and a search for more. “Erte’s (Roman de Tirtoff) work had a huge impact on me. Realizing that there wasn’t much of that kind of art featuring black women was a turning point. I thought, “This is fantastic! But where can I find some where the women look like me?” I’m female, black and West Indian – those come with a host of dynamics.”
With this idea in mind, 26 year old Brianna began producing her own works of art, showcasing the beauty of the women from her homeland, Trinidad in the West Indies. “For me,” says Brianna, “I get a kick when a mother, sister, woman makes sure to let me know that she’s going to use what I’ve been blessed to create to show her children just how beautiful they are. I think that’s the best part of all of this.”
