The founder of the project Myraline writes this about how she came up with the idea:
“While trying to decide how I could contribute in some manner to support our “Sistas” serving in the military overseas, I learned through the website www.anysoldier.com how difficult it is for “Sistas” to maintain their hair while deployed in such places as Iraq and Afghanistan. It was clear that they no longer had access to the “good stuff”, the critical products to manage our kind of hair. The Sister Soldiers were requesting hair care products from home more than any other single product. . . and by brand name! ”
