Herbal Essentials – A Visit To “The Herbalist”
By: NewNaturalista
This place had me at the name. Who wouldn’t be curious about a store called “The Herbalist?”
Snickering aside, this place is pure heaven for someone like me. Tonics, elixers, oils, salves, teas – and the owner practices “iridology.” It’s the study of the iris of the eye, which they say reveals body constitution and levels of health. Wow! I could spend all day and all of my money in this store! Luckily my hubby was with me, and pulled me back a little. I chose to test the waters by trying out the “Detox-It Kit,” which I started Monday morning.
A Cleansing Guide (which told me to cut coffee. Ugh.)
G.I. Gel plus Fiber™: Provides Soothing Gastro Intestinal Support
Three Tonics:
- Detox: Promotes Healthy Liver and Digestion
- Blood Sugar Blues™: Restores Healthy Blood Sugar Levels
- Rasayana REJUVENATING TONIC: Promotes Adrenal Health and Restores Youthful Vitality
Namaste Tea: Promotes Mental Health and Stress Reduction
L.B.T. Caps: Lower Bowel Tonic – Soothing Herbal Laxative
And here’s what it says it will do for me:
- Promotes weight-loss safely
- Cleanses and soothes a sluggish G. I. tract, relieves occasional constipation and diarrhea
- Improves elimination
- Detoxifies the digestive tract, liver, kidneys, and colon
- Improves digestion
- Balances Blood Sugar Levels
- Reduces cravings for habit-forming substances i.e. caffeine, sugar, bread, alcohol, and nicotine (I’m not sure my body can go without coffee)
- Increases fat metabolism
- Promotes healthy cholesterol levels
- Promotes stress reduction and well being
- Balances hormone levels
- Restores energy and libido and balances moods
Ok, so back to the coffee thing. Quitting coffee is like my worst fear. Ever. I’m not making light of heroin addiction, but when I saw Basketball Diaries, I imagined that’s how it would be for me if I quit coffee. My husband would have to put me in a locked room and tie up my arms and legs. I imagine my body would be convulsing in pain. In fact, my head hurts right now thinking about it. Even during a bout of the stomach flu a few weeks ago, I refused to give it up. I just took little sips to keep me from throwing up. (Ok I just reread that last line. That sounds pretty pathetic.)
Aside from the “coffee situation” after three days on The Detox-It Kit I will say I feel – good. I’m not running to the bathroom like I expected, everything just sort of happens naturally. I’m thinking that maybe I’m not so gross and nasty inside as I have been in the past, so that helps.
Some of the ingredients in the tonics are familiar to me. Oregon Grape root, yellow dock root and fennel seed are some of the ingredients in the Detox Tonic. The purpose is to promote a healthy liver and digestive system. My G.I. Gell plus Fiber mixture contains slippery elm bark, psyllium and flax seed and bentonite clay (man I love that stuff) – all of which I have used independently to cleanse…so I know those little scrubbers are working together inside of my body! All of the tonics are certified organic and ethically wild harvested.
Maybe, The Herbalist will have something to help me quit coffee.
