The moment I walked into the Ballard Organics home store in Seattle, I felt as if I’d walked into heaven. It was as if someone had wrapped me up in an array of warm, clean scents. Pure decadence!
Ballard Organics motto is “High Quality Ingredients for High Quality Skin,” and there is certainly a lot of soaps to choose from. It is one of the only soap companies that can truly say it is certified organic, made according to NOP (National Organic Program ) guidelines. Why does it matter if your soap is organic?
Handmade soap makers will tell you it’s better for your skin because there are no pesticides or solvents that damage skin. There’s also claims that most skin-care products on the market create deficiencies, which can then be corrected with other skin-care products conveniently manufactured by the same company.
Back at Ballard Organics I scooped up a bar of lavender-oatmeal and peppermint-rosemary soap along with a jar of 100% organic shea butter and lavender oil. After trying the products out on myself and my daughter, I have to say the money I spent was well worth it.
I love the scents, they weren’t overwhelming – just right. The soap creates a little lather (which isn’t necessary to clean, but we love bubbles) but it isn’t drying. The soap leaves our skin feeling soft and clean with no residue. My hair certainly thanks me everyday for my organic shea butter, mixed with a little lavender oil!
If you’re used to buying traditional soaps – the price here may be a little steep. A bar costs $3.95. 1 ounce of Lavender Oil costs about $7. I believe it’s worth it. Our skin is our largest organ of the body, I like the idea of nourishing it from the inside and the outside.
Ballard Organics offers soapmaking classes and it’s products are also available for purchase online.

Thank, I will surely try the Shea butter and lavender oil. What goes around always comes around. Grandma use to make soap without the fragrance and scents. probably not as easy on ones skin also.
