Sartorial Science: Joaillerie!

We have recently trained our sartorial spotlight on the shoes of the season and the bags of the season. We would be remiss not to highlight some of the jeweled trends that will bloom come spring.

Bangles and bracelets are going to be the most accessible and easily incorporated of the new jewelry trends. Louis Vuitton, helmed by Marc Jacobs, recently launched their first fine jewelry line and of course, hit the nail on the head of the upcoming season’s trends. The Vuitton bangles are reflective of what’s sure to be the hit of the season. Metallic bangles in mixed metals, or studded bracelets; in fabric with pastels and bright colors are sure to be indicative of the looks sported in the coming season.

Mixed metals are not only to be found on bangles! One of the trends that have been gaining momentum over the past few seasons has been mixed medium jewelry like this necklace by Erickson Beamon.

On to what I like to call “Scary Jewelry!” Statement jewelry of a gothic or naturally, historically or anatomically derived (….or just a weird and quirky) nature is also a trend worthy look. While the skulls incorporated into the looks of Alexander McQueen and Delfina Delettrez’s (4th generation of the Fendi family) jewelry have trickled down to mass market the work the designers do with their pieces are intricate and quite easily distinguished.

Pieces featuring animals and/or animal themes have been gaining more exposure lately. The animal kingdom provides great inspiration for designers and jewelry wearers alike:

What can be distilled from all of these trends is to adorn one’s self in bold, statement pieces! The BOLDER the BETTER! The usual rules no longer apply. Mix metals, mix fabric, and textures! Mix pearls with diamonds. Mix costume jewelry with fine jewels! Skulls! Animals!!! Express yourself with accessories! Here are a few ways to incorporate the trends without breaking the bank:
