Print Perfection

Despite the near freezing temperatures on the east coast, I can’t help but feel the familiar stirring inside (and outside) that means spring is on its way! I am so looking forward to warmer weather and longer days.  The fact that the sun sets at a respectable time of 5:30pm means one thing…winter is on its way out. I, for one could not be more grateful, if for no other reason than spring fashion.

The perfect way to welcome spring is via one of the more easily accessible trends that seem to be on the rise and should crest right about the first frost. It is the Print trend and…yes that’s with a capital “P”. The trend has had an enormous presence in the spring ready to wear collections. This new incarnation of prints is amazing because of the variety found and also because it refers back to the psychedelic ‘60’s…..these are not your grandmother’s florals. That is…unless your grandma was a flower-child 40 years ahead of her time!

Many designers were print heavy in the past few seasons, none as prolific as Basso and Brooke. Bruno Basso and Christopher Brooke of Basso and Brooke know how to show a good print or two….or thirty! Their whole spring 2010 collection was chock full of prints. For years their collections have exhibited this trend culminating in the spring 2010 collection…and of course it was lovely and amazing. Every piece was nothing short of “print perfection”!

Other designers also demonstrated their love of prints on the spring runways such as Balenciaga, Givenchy, BCBG Max Azria and Alexander McQueen among others. The spring collections show prints that are graphic, stoutly geometric and in some cases intensely floral. While some are abstract animal prints, others are digitized and/or tribal in their inspiration.

All of these prints are versatile and can be paired with any of the other spring trends for a unique and individualized look. Here’s how you can incorporate the trend in your spring wardrobe!

Sharp, I wish my girl would have saved some of our fashions from the 70’s. I had a pair of print stretch pants that I loved, so colorful and comfortable. Thanks for sharing the trend, what goes around comes around full circle.
