The timeless military look is back, from epaulets to dusty khaki colors and distressed fabrics. The Buyologist shows us how to wear this season’s military inspired clothing.
Sartorial Science – Military Trend
One of the more cyclical and easily adaptable trends has migrated once again to the fore front of spring fashion. This trend, seen on major runways such as Chloe (designer, Hannah McGibbon), Celine (helmed by Phoebe Philo, who was previously head designer at Chloe) and other runways like Balmain is the Military Trend. The extraordinary reach of this trend is obvious in its prevalence not only in designer markets but also in department stores. The trend’s influence is surfacing in 2010, but it has in every year and every decade. Military elements can be seen in early examples in the 1800’s such as with Spencer jackets.
It almost shouldn’t be deemed a trend in reality – given that its elements are used in almost every season, even Twiggy showcased the style in the 60’s!
The strong epaulets, the dusty khaki colors, the worn, distressed fabrics. The look is literally inescapable! But, that’s a good thing. It’s a trend anyone can partake, every shape is flattering. From Balmain to the GAP its footprint is found everywhere. Here are some current military looks from spring 2010 runways; they run the gamut from high end fashion houses…
…to affordable mass market and department stores!
The military trends appeal is undeniable. Its versatility is a given… anyone can have fun with this look so don’t worry about fitting the trend into your wardrobe…At EASE troops!
