I’ve had my fair share of makeup mishaps.  Back in high school I was all about Fashion Fair, I’d pile it on my face.  Coupled with my oily complexion I was literally an oil slick – leaving my “makeup mark” on all of my homework papers.

In college I fell in love with Clinique – sporting the “ashen” look, the makeup color looked fine in the mirror, but photos showed that the colors were all wrong.

MAC came into my life when I started in the broadcast business.  The colors were spot on, but my acne prone skin did not take to the product ingredients.  These days I find myself wearing minimal makeup until air time…and minutes before I go on air, I pile on my MAC staples.

So I was excited to find out about Hayah Cosmetics, mineral makeup formulated for women of color. The colors are beyond “light, medium and dark” and the ingredients are all natural.

Hayah Cosmetics was started about 4 years ago by Meagan Peace and her husband Darrius, a hair sylist.  They were approached by one of their clients to join a business opportunity for a major cosmetic brand.  After taking the time to think about it, the Peace’s decided they didn’t want to sell a makeup product to minority women that wasn’t created specifically for us.  Thus the conception of their own product line, Hayah, named after their first born.

Meagan was kind enough to rush over to us samples in all shades!  Marvelous, Radiant, Glorious, Desirable, Sensational, Beautiful, Divine and Exquisite!  These colors focus and work with both the high and low tones in your skin.  Of course I couldn’t resist – I had to give them a try. I was almost overwhelmed by the selection – but in the end I decided to go with the shade “exquisite.”

IMG_3351 IMG_3355 IMG_3360 Whaddya know!  Amazing, exquisite matches almost perfectly and looks really natural. I love the idea of using mineral makeup, which is derived from naturally occurring minerals that have been mined around the world from the earth’s surface. These minerals are then refined, purified, and crushed to be suitable for cosmetic use. Authentic mineral makeup contains no harmful chemicals, dyes, or fragrances. It is also free of talc, cheap synthetic fillers.   Hayah Cosmetics definitely gets a “thumbs up” from NewNaturalista!

Hayah is offering NewNaturalista readers 10% off and free shipping on all “hot sets” thru Feb 2nd using the promo code NEWNATURALISTA 2010.   Just go to hayahcosmetics.com
