John Patrick is a man after my own heart.  I hardly know him…well actually I don’t know him at all – but recently I’ve discovered Patrick’s latest love – his 2010 organic collection.  I have to say I’m impressed.

This line has me wondering…can get away with a bow tie for my day job as a television reporter? Maybe not — but John Patrick’s clothes are certainly inspiring.  The pieces are not only fashion forward, wearable and elegant, they’re also sustainable, organic – and ethically made.

Patrick is well known as an “organic great” in the fashion world.  Early on it wasn’t easy for him to find organic fabrics.  During one point in his career he had to use organic bed sheets for material!  These days selections are better — in part because of Patrick’s tireless efforts to bring organic clothing to the forefront.

Why is organic clothing important?  Some conventionally grown cotton for instance, uses large amounts of pesticides.  During processing some of it is subjected to heavy metal dyes and chlorine bleach along with traces of formaldehyde.  Organic cotton is not only softer and easier on your skin, it’s better for farm workers out in the fields.   Patrick uses organic cashmeres, wool, cotton (also recycled cotton) and velvet.

Patrick was kind enough to send us photos of his 2010 collection.  I LOVE his use of models of all different shades!  I hope you enjoy his looks as much as I have.  For more info on where to buy : johnpatrickorganic.com
